Shop My Stash: January 2020 Pt. 2
Hi there!
I'm a bit late with both this video and blogpost. I've been in a flare for the past 3 weeks, and haven't been able to get out of bed most days. That has also meant that I haven't touched my makeup more that 2 times in the last 3 weeks.
This was my first month where I started the project of using every single item in my makeup collection currently open. We're talking over 1200 pans here, so it's a lot! I didn't get the best start this year, and there are a handful of items that I didn't get to use. They will stay in the drawer for the remainder of this month, so I can use them. I do feel pretty happy about the little bit of progress I made, and even with a slow month, I was able to cross almost 100 pans off my list!
I also started thinking after posting the intro video about what I would do with the items I don't love. I have an absurdly large collection, and in it there are items I don't reach for. I also have some items that are old. After thinking about it over the 3 weeks I was sick, I came to the conclusion that there is no point to put makeup back that I won't reach for. I have a lot of makeup, and there is no way I can get through all of them, so I'm prioritising my favourites. That means any item that I don't love, that I don't like enough to pan, and that I never reach for is being decluttered. I don't see a point in putting these items back into my collection, where they only take up space, and then declutter them in the future when I can declutter them now. I do still want to try everything to see if I can pan them, but for any item that I don't like enough to pan, I don't see a point in putting it back into my collection to be forgotten.
I also have a lot of items that are over 3-4+ years old. And even though I don't mind using powder products like blush, highlighter and eyeshadows that are that old, and sometimes older, I do feel a little uneasy about cream products that are that old. I made the decision a few years ago to not use mascaras that have been open for more than a year, and this year I'm also hoping to cut out more cream products that are old. I don't mind using products on myself that are past their own best before date, but I'm not too keen on using products that are coming up to 5 years old. I'm mainly hoping to get to all the cream products I bought in Florida in 2015, and decide if they are items I'll be able to pan before the end of the year. If I know I can't, or I have zero interest in finishing it, I'll most likely declutter those items when they end up in my shop my stash.
